It's and okay book to get you started but this book really lacked any hardcore substance. For about 80 pages, this guide tells you to play a bunch of games and some tips to keep you motivated. The rest of the book gives some sources for game design, but most of it is just fluff and filler. This book could easily be turned into a 5 page outline. I was actually a little disappointed, especially since the forward is by a well known and favorite game designer. He basically mentions that he wished he had this book. I gave this book three stars because this guide does offer the very...very...very basics of getting started.This is the book in a nutshell:Stay motivatedPlay gamesMake a single gamePlay more gamesPlay your own gameStay motivatedPlay more gamesThink about publishing optionsETC.I'm sure other guides will provide better info.

Wow! I created a game and prototype last year and it’s still in the craft room! This book has so much packed value that I’m inspired to dust it off and start going at it again! I love the 4I Framework that he uses! I didn’t know of the other resources that are available. I had only looked into licensing but crowd funding and print on demand sound like some good options. The check list is helpful. Excellent resource for inspired geniuses. I love how the author also addresses mindset because that is 80% of the process!

In my idea book I have several game ideas. I'd write out the rules and even sketch game boards but I never knew what to do next. After reading this book I feel confident I could make these game ideas or reality or at least know how to find out if they would be fun to play.

Interesting and comprehensive look at creating a board game. There was even practical advice for anyone working in any creative field. I know two little boys who would love this book and who I will be sharing it with.

My husband made a fantastic game and I was so excited when this book came out so he can read it!! This book covers everything from your game idea to how to make it to how to sell it. Thanks for such a thorough guide.

Not the greatest resource.

I've always loved board games. over the years, since I was a child, I can remember the classic boardgames that made those rainy days indoors lots of fun: Monopoly, Clue, Risk and checkers. There was a book published 15 years ago called Songs, which contained all the lyrics of every Springsteen song written to that time. I loved that book. I read it cover to cover, several times. You could read and contemplate all his lyrics. Born to Run helps explain the factors that helped Bruce’s amazing catalog of music come into creation.Bruce’s autobiography, Born to Run, gives his fans tremendous insight into what it was that has driven Bruce over the course of his life and career. The motivations, the demons, the anxiety, the joys, the fears, the hopes, the dreams, all the elements that have constituted the Boss’s muse over these past 50 years are explained here. And not only is Bruce one of the great writers of lyrics and music, he is a great writer of prose. He amply demonstrates this here for all the world to see. He shares his story in a way only he could.If you intend to purchase and read this book, I will tell you it is a real page turner. I could not put this book down. Upon my third listen, it gets better and better. Just like a great Springsteen album, there's always something new or different, seemingly heard for the first time, that comes from multiple go-rounds.Nobody else could narrate this book. That Bruce does himself, with his own inflections, emotions, and emphasis, pulls you in and sits you right next to him at the kitchen table. And living room, bedroom, on his motorcycle, on the road, in the bar, on stage. Just like one of his songs, Bruce paints you a picture, or more accurately shows you a short film, and let's you watch with a connecting, voyeuristic, and participating eye (and ear). And with 80 chapters, that's many hundreds of short films the listener sees and hears.I received the book on release day. I struggled through 100 pages. I kept putting it down, and struggled to read more than 10 or 12 pages at a time. Not because it was boring. DEFINITELY NOT! But because it was so draining on my emotions. That's how heartfelt and stirring Bruce's stories and descriptions are. It seems every page could be penned into a song of his. And like good poetry and prose, a slow reading of the book was the only way I could absorb the detail and depth of Bruce's storytelling.So I got the audiobook, and it made all the difference and more. Bruce is a slow reader, and it works for the best, as I aforementioned. If you love Bruce, you'll love this book. And if you thought you knew everything about Bruce, you are sadly mistaken! Bruce shares all, and we are fortunate that this private hero has allowed us this (way more than a) glimpse into his music life, family life, personal life, psychological life, child life. If you're a casual fan, It's hard for me to predict your assessment of it (I've never been "casual" about Bruce). Music fans and musicians of all disciplines no doubt will find Bruce's passion, and singularly focused drive compelling.This is more than a book about music. Way more. It's the story of man who is shaped, burdened, broken by, and built up by, the countless influences of people, neighborhood, politics, humanity, religion, and psychological experiences. All the reasons Bruce is who he is. And we're invited into his world for 18 hours or so. How lucky for us!

I read Clapton's book and listened to the music as I went along. Did the same with Buddy Guy's book. Both books were fun. This book left me gobstoppered. The story is good, the writing is good, the music is great,the emotions are raw. This book tells the story well enough but the author makes it real. His struggle to get noticed, to write and play good music, his strained relations with his family, his ongoing battle with depression: its all here and its real. Great book.

You have to love it - the book is the only subject matter of its type to my knowledge currently in print. It is also unique in assembling all of this information in one place. I got the 1st edition many years ago.. Each subsequent edition and this latest is a marginal improvement, partly as to additional information of marginal usage, but also with better organization and indexing. Anyone wanting to compound their own conventional types of photo chemistry [black & white] could probably do just as well with any edition. Note that the information on "alternative processes" varies from sufficient down to minimal - you may have to fall back on the internet to fill out your knowledge of some of the more uncommonly used processes. If you get into such oddities, you will be doing that anyway. This not a beginner's guide to DIY film developing. There are many "how to do it" books out there, and most all of them are a better education for the newbe to film processing techniques.

5 stars for Kindle version. The book has seen major update to previous version, which I waited out and am glad I did. Kindle version viewed on any high resolution screen is going to be great for any purchaser (not sure about paperwhite, but that is my quibble with that device once I started using a good tablet, the damn thing is just way too slow). Having said that, why is this book NOT published in ring binding version? A hardback would help keeping pages together, but paperback for a darkroom cookbook that is to be flipped all over all the time? This is a major flaw of this publication and hard to understand.

a must have for the darkroom. yeah i know the darkroom days are numbered, but you'll never achieve a black and white print half as good as one developed on photographic paper Period. been doing black and white in a darkroom since the 70's and i have seen good digital work, but it pales in comparison to good old analog prints. Steve's book is well thought out and a great starting point for the darkroom photographer. you may have to tweak the formulas to your liking because that's what makes them your photos

This is a great book for anyone who is into traditional black & white film photography. With not too many different chemicals you can make a pretty wide range of the recipes in here. For me, finding the Defender 55D paper developer recipe was worth the price alone! I love the tones it gives.

I had an older edition of this book which I found indispensable. This new edition has so much new information and chapters by renowned photographers that I would now rate this book as absolutely essential reading for any darkroom worker. I really like the authors strong emphasis on darkroom safety. Would give it 6 stars if I could!

If you develop you need this book, period. It's comprehensive, easy to understand, and can take a complete newbie from a to z easily. Everything is covered in this book including stand development, pyro, two bath, one bath, and a lot lot lot more.

Great reference manual. Well written and easy to access the subject you seek. Well formatted and well written.

As stated in the summery this is a great book for people who wish to advance in the darkroom; to have more control over their work. The Darkroom Cookbook discuss, in easy to understand concise language, how to make your own developers, toners, fixers, reducers etc. Stephen Anchell gives you the formulas to reproduce, in your own darkroom, a host of great developers etc. He also gives some basic info on hints and tools you will need to get started. A well written book easy to follow; though a little knowledge of basic chemistry is helpful. I am a new darkroomer and found this book has a wealth of inforamtion helpful if you like to expeirment. By the way, If you are just being introduced to the darkroom or rusty at it, don't buy this book at this momment. Wait untill you feel comfortable working in the darkroom using stock chemicals, this book might discourage some from beinning because it is a techincal manual.

I'm reminded that back in the day people relied on these sort of 'folding' (yet they never really fold back to original form) map to navigate a city. Swing by a gas station, pay a buck and voila! Rand McNally has been doing this for years. However, opening up one of these suckers while actually in a vehicle, especially without a passenger's aid has GOT to be right up there with drunk driving in terms of danger. Thank heaven for audible GPS.However, I am planning a move to PGH. I purchased this to hang on the wall to familiarize myself with the layout of the town. Unfortunately, I don't find it helpful. The color scheme, font, and general muted print color is not easy on the eyes. And mind you, this is while the map is completely stationary. I realize the task of determining what details to include on a general roadmap must be a difficult challenge--leave important info out and people gripe it's not detailed enough. Include too much and it becomes an impossible-to-read cluttered mess. Somehow this map manages to fail me on all levels. PGH is made up of dozens upon dozens of neighborhoods, some only a few blocks long, so I didn't have unrealistic expectations that this particular style of map would include them. However, just trying to find, for example, the popular area known as Oakland (near the college and hospital) took me forever....hunting and pecking around microscopic print, not aided by intelligent shading, was a study in frustration. If you can't even make out road names, why include them at all?As common in this style of map, one side is a layout of the region, complete with a few exurbian areas; the general area of 'downtown' is on the opposite side, blown up. However, the readability and practical details of the magnified PGH proper is still frustrating, only taking up a fraction of the entire unfolded page. Rand McNally must know there's little demand in this day and age for tangible maps and decided they didn't really need to put any effort into their design. My husband has perfect 20/20 vision and still has to squint to make out some detail. Again, my biggest gripe is the pastels used that mutes the ability to read it comfortably unless using the brightest light. I know it's cheaper to purchase this map than a fast food burger, but I'd gladly pay a bit more to actually learn about city streets rather than invest in a magnifying glass. I bought a better book-style map of the city and guess will just Xerox certain pages to fashion my own layout as keeping this pinned up on my wall has not helped me even in the vaguest way. And not in a million years can I imagine using this map to genuinely navigate 'live' through PGH. Avoid.

With colleagues I have taught the first term of a huge (800-student) freshman college world-civ class each year for the last twenty years or so. We have always assigned a reference atlas, and although we have tried various ones, this is the book we keep coming back to. It is cheap, indexed, up to date (revised pretty much constantly, although without always changing the ISBN), and sufficiently detailed to be consistently handy. One can always wish for more --it'd be nice if it showed Indian states and made Chinese provinces clearer, for example-- but in these days when it is easy to get additional detail as needed from the Internet, a small, easily grabbed first reference is more important. When we have tried smaller atlases the detail was inadequate. Larger ones seemed wasted because they went beyond most of our needs. This one has always been pretty much "just right."

This map was just what I needed b/c I am thinking to relocate to the Atlanta area and I wanted to map out certain points of interest and good schools and where the companies are that I will be applying to for a job. This helps to narrow down my search.

I got my grandmother a copy of this atlas a few years ago and she loved using it for finding answers to crossword clues. The atlas is smaller than most in dimensions, and the weight is easy for her arthritic fingers to handle. You won't find the level of detail that you would in a larger atlas, but is more than adequate for locating all major cities, rivers, etc. across the world. Unfortunately, she used it constantly and it was in tatters after only a few years, so I found her another one used on Amazon. She said it was indistinguishable from her original copy and in brand new shape. So if you have trouble finding a new one, try for a used one here.

This map was a gift to my daughter who lives in Atlanta and she said that she loves it. It gives her perspective beyond the GPS that she needs to navigate through the area. That's good enough for me!

As a real-estate investor, I needed a birds-eye view of the city. I hung this map on the wall and it's been wonderful for getting to know the neighborhoods and their proximity to major roads.

This map was disappointing. We were interested primarily in the East side of Orlando, including the Univesity of Central Florida, Waterford Lakes and surrounding neighborhoods. Although these areas have been developed for at least 15 or more years and are a continuous part of the Orlando Metro area, this map does not include them, cutting off at about Alafaya Trail. I do not recommend this unless you are only interested in downtown and the theme park area.

The price was right, and the book was in good condition. The maps were still a little small for my needs.
