If you have ever been overwhelmed by variety while shopping for Tequila, this book is for you! After reading "Tequila 101" you will know exactly what you need and why you need it. Big thanks to the Tippling Bros. for sharing their knowledge and experience so that others can enjoy. The recipes offer so many flavor combinations there is sure to be a favorite for everyone and the stories they share are quite entertaining! If there are any Tequila lovers on your gift lists this is one they will LOVE! Nothing but good stuff here!!!

For someone who loves margarita... specifically a combination of tequila and any citrus this book will not disappoint you. We made several recipes from this book and they all taste authentic and so good. The only con is they have their own recipes for simple syrup and other condiments and most of ththe m only last 7 days in the fridge - a bit inconvenient.

I gave this book as a Christmas gift to someone who loves margaritas. We're both having such a fun time reading the recipes and stories in the book — it's the best! I didn't have high expectations for a cocktail cook book but the info is so interesting and helpful and it's fun to reference while making new drinks or just to read after dinner.

Love this book. I was pleasantly surprised to find that, not only do I have an arsenal of pretty kick-ass Mexican cocktail recipes at my disposal, I learned more than I ever thought possible about the history and varieties of Tequila and Mezcal. The recipes are fresh and sophisticated but totally accessible. Can't wait to work my way through all of them, now that I'm a bonafide expert on all things Tequila.Bonus: the book is beautiful and well-written. This would be a great gift along with a nice bottle of Tequila.

The first of hopefully many must have cocktail manuals from the world’s best beverage consultants. The duo who are consistently ahead of the game bring a whimsical yet informative book on the often under used and over-mixed Agave spirits and Mexican flavors. This is a modern textbook that shakes up the common exhausted recipes with fresh, spicy, and exotic libations. Bravo gentlemen!

I've made so many great drinks using this book. You can get creative with the recipes to modify them too... Especially if you have friends that don't drink.

This book has a lot of great ideas and recipes. As a heads up a lot of these drinks involve creating your own syrups, infusions, etc. Which is great and lends itself to further inspiration.

This is a well written guide to serving cocktails at a party. Very easy to follow directions.

Alison England shares her personal experience with independent domestic adoption, from when she felt called to adopt a child into her biological family, to some of the personal events and experiences her family went through during the preparation and adoption process, to the details of bringing her daughter home.A tandem (bicycle for two) is a beautiful analogy for putting effort into the process, but trusting that God is in control of the journey. As she tells her son on a surprise bicycle adventure: “Trust me, just keep pedaling and enjoy the ride, bud.”Adoption is a challenging process, largely due to a large lack of control and large amount of the unknown involved. It is through the experiences and wisdom of others that prospective parents can find encouragement and support, and Tandem: A Devotional for Adopting with God in the Lead is a straightforward and valuable read and resource. (The author has also started a Facebook community for the book and a website/blog to share encouragement and information for prospective and current adoptive parents.)Alison’s writing is conversational, and it’s easy to feel like you really know her as you read her story. I appreciate Alison’s vulnerable honesty as she shares about a typically long and emotional process, from medical and relational challenges, to doubts and fears along the way.I also love how throughout the book, she includes supporting scriptures, and ends chapters with a collection of scripture(s) and “Thoughts Along the Way” which are questions and points for reflection.Because not all adoption experiences are the same, I also appreciated the incorporation of a chapter specifically from another adoptive mother’s voice which speaks to the experience of what it is like for those seeking to adopt if the expectant parents change their mind and choose parenting rather than adoption.This book is written from a strong Christian perspective, and honors God’s heart for adoption. While I share the author’s Christian perspective, I believe hearing the real-life experience and steps of the author would still be beneficial for non-believers.

Where do I start? This book is like nourishment for my soul. Encouragement to persevere. Hard to put down! It reads like a book with encouragement from scripture and chances to follow through what you're learning with activities/exercises to follow to get even more out of it. I'm reading it through myself, plan to read it aloud to my husband, and pass it along to every person I know who wants to adopt, is in the process or is considering adoption. We are also a military family who is in the process and can imagine all that the England's have gone through. Don't hesitate to buy a copy or 5 for your friends!

My wife and I read this book together. We are in the process of adopting and we loved it! It was so easy to connect with Alison's story. My wife had a hard time setting it down every day as she wanted to keep reading!!! It gave us encouagement, inspiration and peace seeing how God worked through their journey. We bought 2 copies so that we can share it with the people we meet that are beginning their adoption journey!

A week ago I searched 'Christian adoption books' on Amazon and ordered this book. It is one of the best books I've ever read... and I read a lot of books! I could not put it down, finishing it in three nights. Not only is the author a good writer, the feelings she expresses are so realistic to how the adoption roller coaster feels.I especially loved the scripture she included .... "our suffering gives us the strength to go on. The strength to go on produces character. Character produces hope." Romans 5:3-4. The morning after I read this in the book, I went to my church and my pastor quoted this Scripture in his sermon. Wow.

This book is good for the soul. It is for anyone considering adoption, in the beginning stages of adoption, or even finishing up the adoption process. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I chose to read one chapter a night and truthfully had to make myself put the book down each night. I have passed it on to my family to read, so they can also learn about the adoption journey. Thank you for such a great encouraging devotional about letting God take the lead- not just in your adoption, but life!

If you are adopting this is the book for you! This book guided us through our adoption in such an amazing, Godly way. We recommend anyone going through adoption at any stage and any type of adoption to read this book! This is the best adoption book we have found!

Alison England's story is so much appreciated, and gives an insightful perspective on adoption.... the prep, the paperwork, the waiting, and most of all, the emotional rollercoaster!!! England's embrace with God and His plan for her family in the adoption journey is reflected upon in each chapter. She paints the picture of how He made it all fall into place, stumbling blocks and all. One of the best parts of each chapter are the verses and prompts to reflect on your own journey!!! Thank You, Allison, for sharing your story!! It will be my go-to guide as we go through our journey!!

When we first starting discussing adoption I ordered this book, and since I have read several. This is still number 2 in my book, so real and personal. After reading this I was able to look back on life and realize how God had been preparing for adoption all my life. Allison is a wonderful author and offers great advice throughout the book. After reading I seriously felt like I knew her and could relate so much to her story!

This book is full of wonderful wisdom and insights. Sheen's writing style is very accessible and the fact that the selections are not very long means that it is an easy book to pick up and soak up. The only negative for me is that there is a great deal of repetition but that comes from the fact that it is an anthology.

I am an avid Sheen fan. I have read more books by Sheen than any other author. I love this book because it presents writings that I have not read in other books. It is an anthology so each chapter is a few pages but each talk it loaded with dynamite.If like Sheen get this book.

Over the last three years I have read a dozen books by or about Reverend Fulton J. Sheen. A couple of the others were anthologies after a form and excerpts of Sheen’s own writings compiled by an editor. One was a flop and I never bothered finishing it. The books of Advent and Lenten meditations are well done but leave a reader wanting more. But I often find when I read something by Rev. Sheen, I want more. And this book falls in that category. Of the 4 or 5 books I have read that were compiled of Sheen’s works this is by far the best. Alan J. Smith is the editor of this amazing volume, and though his name does not appear on the cover, credit is due. From the introduction of the volume we are told:“Given their importance and the impact they had on society, it seemed appropriate to bring together in this anthology some of Archbishop Sheen’s meditations on the words of Jesus and Mary from seven books he wrote from 1933 to 1945:The Seven Last Words (1933)The Cross and the Beatitudes (1937)The Rainbow of Sorrow (1938)Victory over Vice (1939)The Seven Virtues (1940)Seven Words to the Cross (1944)Seven Words of Jesus and Mary (1945)This anthology has been arranged into seven chapters, each of which addresses one of the seven last words spoken by Christ on the Cross. By todays standards where so many books are being published at under 250 or even right around 200 pages this book is a larger volume. But trust me it is worth it. This book is an incredible read. I average over 100 books read a year, and more than double that the last few years. This book is one of the best Christin books I have read in the last few years.

Wow, what a great piece of work.

Over many years I've collected as many Archbishop Fulton Sheen books as possible. I find that his writing leads me into prayerful reflection. In this new, one volume of collected, priceless writings, I find a treasury of wisdom, truth, and love. I have ordered additional copies to give as gifts to priest friends and colleagues. I highly recommend this book for everyone! I'm grateful to the editor, Allan J. Smith for arranging this anthology of Archbishop Sheen writings in the style of a retreat book. Long will I enjoy this work and so will readers who want solid, relevant, scripturally based reflections.

This brand new book contains an anthology of seven of Sheen's books all relating the the Last Words of Christ from the Cross. I have read a couple of the books included (Victory of Vice, for example) but several of the titles are out of print and available again in this collection. Each of Sheen's original books have seven chapters correlating to different aspects of Christ's seven Last Words (virtue, vice, Beatitudes, relation to Mary, etc.). What is truly remarkable about the anthology is that all of that rich writing is now in one place organized by theme. You can read through all the related teachings and wisdom that Sheen shared in many of his Good Friday retreats in one place. Also, seven sections from seven books means that there are 49 chapters in this book- a perfect amount to read one chapter each day during Lent.Fulton Sheen's teaching is timeless and relevant. This is a great, short introduction to the prophets, but particularly the book of Isaiah. Page-for-page I think it is the best overivew out there.

Some years ago I had the privilege of walking the halls of the campus of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. A student who must have realized I was new, walked up to me, raised his finger, and pointed down the hallway at a bearded man stepping out of an office and turning around the corner. "That man is a genius," he said, and walked off. That genius turned out to be Dr. Peter J. Gentry, Professor of Old Testament Interpretation.Dr. Gentry's newest book, How to Read and Understand the Biblical Prophets is a testament to that genius. I read the first chapter, "Calling the People Back to the Covenant," and told my wife, "That chapter alone was worth the cost of the book." The next six chapters and appendix on the literary structure of Revelation were equally valuable. Gentry believes that "having the larger picture right will help to get the details right." Commentaries tend to focus on the details of the text, but run the risk of missing the forest for the trees. Gentry's approach stems from years of research and hard work to learn the intricacies of ancient Hebrew and Middle Eastern literary styles. As a result, he's able to move from 10,000 feet to ground level and back again with relative ease.In this work he provides great insight on the Biblical prophets, especially the books of Isaiah and Daniel. I'm very excited about returning to these sections of the Old Testament again, and I plan to consult Dr. Gentry's book during my reading. Rarely does a book strike me like this one has.I received a review copy of this book from the publisher, and I give it my highest praise.

This is a short, succinct book on the genre of prophecy and how this Hebrew literature was written. In our Western mindset, we often don't properly read and understand Hebrew prophecy, as it was written in a style that we are not accustomed to. Peter Gentry takes us through the characteristics of Hebrew prophecy and how to better understand it. He uses multiple examples, particularly in Isaiah, to show the style and genre and demonstrate how this would have been understood to the original readers. As I'm currently studying Isaiah, I found this helpful to better understand what I am reading. There are charts throughout the book to demonstrate the chiastic structure that is common in Hebrew literature. We are not properly understanding the Bible if we don't understand it the way the original readers understood its meaning. This book is a helpful resource to better understand the genre and structure of the biblical prophets so we can better grasp the original readers' understanding of the text.*I received a copy of this book free on Kindle from the publisher Crossway in exchange for my review.

I was drawn into this book from the early pages, as the author, Peter J. Gentry, captured my attention by pointing out that I have so much more to learn about various genres of literature. Prophetic literature contained in the Christian Bible is just one of those genres.Gentry makes it clear that understanding the genre, the intended audience, the culture, etc. all play important roles in correctly interpreting the original author's intent. For instance, readers today would likely draw different conclusions about the following headlines printed found in different sections of a local newspaper: "Tigers Maul Blue Jays", or "Lions Clash with Jaguars". Thess headlines found in the Nation and World section would carry far different interpretations than the same headings being found in the sports section. One has a literal interpretation, while the other is metaphorical.In a nutshell, Gentry's words say this about his own book's purpose: This "...book focuses...on how Hebrew literature works and how it differs from the kind of literature we are familiar with in the Western world." Therefore, Gentry introduces the reader to various Hebraic literary methods -- such as chiastic structures, apocalyptic language, the use of oracles, and foretelling future events, etc. -- in order to simply and clearly explain to readers how to recognize these literary differences. Once we recognize these techniques, then we are more likely to better interpret the passages in which they are used.I would definitely have benefited from reading this book several years ago, but am very thankful for the opportunity to read this today. It has opened my eyes toward a deeper understanding of God's word. I would definitely recommend this book to any reader and student of God's word who aims to dig below surface level reading of scripture.I definitely give this book 5 out of 5 stars!I received the digital version of How to Read and Understand the Biblical Prophets free of charge from Crossway in exchange for my unbiased review of it. All opinions are mine.

For those interested in Railroads in general, and the New Haven Railroad in particular,you would be well advised to grab a copy of this book. As a 46 year veteran of the NH,PC,Conrail & Amtrak progression, I found it to be very accurate, concise & mostly very interesting reading, bringing the whole history of the New Haven in easily followed chapters (couldn't put it down once I started reading it). Also, there are many excellent photo's. I strongly recommend this book.

I am an "unconditional" admirer of Kaffe Fassett. This artist is gifted with extraordinary talents and creativity. He is a genious of color and design, who can create glorious combinations with colors that would in other hands clash irreparably. I will eventually buy all of his books (not all readily available, unfortunately), as I consider him a magnificent source of inspiration, even though I am not a quilt maker. This book contains gorgeous pictures of some of his innumerable creations, based on simple shapes as the title indicate. Another must for any artist trying to look at the world in a novel way.

This book will get your creative juices flowing! There is an abundance of eye candy amid the pattern, color and design of these quilts as well as teaching the eye how to view everything in nature and our every day surroundings as a design possibility. I highly recommend this book to the quilter, painter, needlework designer, etc. as an excellent teaching tool.

I felt like an amateur artist instead of a ruler junkie when I read thisDesign, colors, a use of both cool and hot palettes, the construction has gentle warnings "this is not a quilt for a beginner" Unless he/she is using robotic sewing arms. Always a pleasure , always full of ideas . This is so far from the sharpest points, most evenly stuffed binding end of things it reminds me why I love to make quilts. Is it to get "better points"? How about playing with shapes and colors and making something that is occasionally beautiful and always a learning experience.Inspiring.

The quilts are spectacularly simple and the photography is stunning. Very inspiring. I rarely use templates for simple shapes, but then I rarely follow a pattern strictly so it is perfect for me...gives me an idea of shapes and sizes so I have a good starting point.

Beautiful quilts in amazing colours with very simple patterns. However, he uses templates rather than rotary cutting. Can still make the quilts using rotary cutters - just hold the template over the fabric. I am making the snowballs quilt.

Squires and Lathrop open by comparing the challenge of providing healthcare to the poor communities of contemporary America to the dilemma faced by early modern germ theorists like Semmelweis, Koch, and Pasteur. These scientists were convinced that the spreading of germs was central to illness and disease, and they struggled to improve healthcare within a system unreceptive to these ideas and the practical changes they would necessitate. As germs were ignored as underlying causes of disease in that era, social and community factors of health are ignored today: “[in treating socially disadvantaged patients], I am up against a body system that has been overrun by factors well outside the scope of medical practice . . . Ignoring social determinants [of health] is equivalent to treating patients with unwashed hands and wondering why disease keeps spreading.”“How Neighborhoods Make us Sick” follows through on this analogy, outlining the social determinants of health, interlaced with Squires and Lathrops’ narratives of their experiences running and expanding a free healthcare clinic for needy patients in Atlanta’s Westside, many of whom experience interlocking disadvantages in nutrition, housing, education, employment, geographic and economic mobility, and racial injustice -- experiences which are a common feature of life for America’s urban underclass.Squires and Lathrop show that the traditional contemporary American healthcare model, with its emphasis on rigid appointment structure, careful adherence to insurer policies and limitations, and brief diagnostic visits followed (almost exclusively) by either pharmaceutical or surgical interventions, does little to help the health of those in poverty and in otherwise disadvantaged communities. An expanded healthcare model can better serve these communities by providing long term therapy for mental and physical health, counseling and assistant for housing and employment, homeless sheltering, healthy and free or reduced-cost food, community outreach, and careful case tracking and management when these services are centrally located (similar to the “campus model” of welfare services embraced elsewhere by some progressive county governments). The authors provide a roadmap for these facilities, using their own revamped clinic as an example.In the final chapters, Squires and Lathrop confront the limitations of reliance on local charitable services such as their own, and urge readers to engage in national healthcare reform. Until we do so have, we have “implicitly accepted the fact that the poor and uninsured have shorter and unhealthier lives as a necessary consequence of our health care system.”This is a great read on the challenges of treating disadvantaged communities, particularly for those with an evangelical Christian perspective.

It’s no surprise that the lack of access to quality preventative health care caused by poverty affects a persons physical and/or mental health. What this book does is address how other factors including the stress caused by job insecurity, unstable housing, poor educational opportunities, access to healthy foods and other factors come together to prevent good health. The statistics regarding life expectancy based on zip codes was eye opening.The second part of the book offers hope in the form of programs not only at Good Samaritan but also across the country to assist people to reach the goal everyone desires - to be able to provide their families with a safe, sustainable environment in which to thrive.

Breanna & Veronica, transitioning between statistics and stories, do an exceptional job outlining the complexity of health in the United States, looking beyond the traditional healthcare ecosystem and into the socioeconomic factors that make people sick. In addition, they outline simple steps to help people go from being informed to becoming active participants in the solution. This book is a must read for anyone looking to improve their neighborhood, improve their understanding of healthcare, or become a better medical professional.

The multi-layered challenges of public health can often feel daunting to undertake. However, the authors brilliantly outline both the systemic problems in our current structures as well as offer solutions that can be implemented practically.

In a world of chaos and neverending struggle, this book provides real world data and encounters that give hope that a healthy future is possible while educating us on what contributes to our downfalls. Very well written and worth the read.

I cannot say enough good about this book. It's a mix of academic, personal, medical, sociological and more than anything, hopeful. (Although you'll no doubt find yourself caught in the hopelessness of the authors on certain pages, and chapters and even full sections, if you can lean in for the long haul, you'll land in a bounty hope and direction.) I would call this book crucial for any invested in politics, education, health, or urban life. ANY Church body should be reading this...ANY neighbor, parent, teacher, medically related field, counselor, civic worker... would find it beneficial, as well. It's an incredibly well researched book that's brave and vulnerable and a massive gift to present and future generations. Thank you for this well of resources packed into the covers of these pages, Veronica and Breanna!

"How Neighborhoods Make Us Sick" is a good read on addressing the social, economic, spiritual, physical, and other ills of our society by acting locally. The authors, employed in the healthcare industry, cover many topics in their book, including:1. Various ways our communities suffer: economic, environmental, educational, social, etc.2. How poverty affects people of all classes.3. Suggestions for revamping healthcare (for example, running a productive health care center in the community).4. Ways unsafe housing affects lives.5. Practical suggestions for how individuals can get involved in changing peoples' lives.The book is well-written, contains some Bible verses to reinforce a point (without twisting verses out of context) and is full of ways lives are adversely affected, ways organizations and individuals are trying to improve lives, and full of practical suggestions (unlike other Christian titles I've read on various topics that are long on pious platitudes and short on practical application).Will read more deeply in the future and is a helpful reference for the follower of Jesus Christ who wants to make a positive impact in God's Kingdom in practical ways.
