About the Author

Chip Gaines and his wife, Joanna Gaines, are co-founders and co-owners of Magnolia Homes, Magnolia Market, and Magnolia Realty in Waco, Texas. Chip was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and was raised in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. He graduated from Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business with a degree in marketing. An entrepreneur by nature, he started and sold many small businesses before Magnolia. Having grown up spending time on his granddad’s ranch in North Texas, Chip became a true cowboy at heart. He says he was made for hard labor and always preferred digging ditches to academic pursuits. Chip loves life with his five kiddos and is head over heels for Joanna. Hand in hand is exactly how Chip prefers to work, which makes Fixer Upper even more fun to watch, and he enjoys seeing his and Joanna’s passions merge to complement and serve one another.

I’ve been angry with Chip and Jo. They made me love them and now they’re leaving me. Now that I’ve read Chips book, I get it now. I admire his priorities and that he’s kept them in focus throughout the fast and crazy rise of Fixer Upper. I forgive you two. I will always love you. Make it a happy life.

I read their other book, "The Magnolia Story," and it it was life-changing. I have only read the first few chapters of this book so far, but it has already been worth the price. I have learned a couple of lessons that have turned me in a positive direction. As always, Chip is honest and real. This is refreshing. And I like that their books are all based on their life experience not theory.

After reading Joanna’s great and enlightening book, I read Chip’s book thinking it would be above my head, about financials and banking tips. Oh was I wrong, it was just as enjoyable as Joanna’s. It was an easy and wonderful read. I learned a lot from his pearls of wisdom. I highly recommend this book. Read it. On kindle lol.

At 27 years old, my husband is a builder and owns his own construction company and I am a realtor and own my own real estate company. More often than not we feel completely isolated from most everyone we know and even our friends. Our lives are so different and our goals and motivations are usually so drastically different that it fees like we are pretty much alone in this. I initially pre-ordered this book for my husband for his birthday as a way to hopefully help him feel less alone. What I did not realize is how much we would BOTH enjoy this book. Not only did reading this make us feel more concrete and motivated in our decisions to pursue and continue growing our businesses, it made us realize just how unlimited our potential is as long as we work hard. We were already huge fans of Fixer Upper, subscribers to Magnolia Journal and frequent Magnolia Market shoppers but now we feel an even deeper connection. I know we don't know them other than what we see via media but because they portray a more real version of themselves and we understand their experiences it's like we know them. My husband and Chip are basically the same person and I almost always share the same sentiment as Joanna, bless us. We have now added visiting the Magnolia empire in Waco to our bucket list. (side bar- how funny anyone 10 years ago would have thought that Waco would be on anyone's bucket list!) Even if you aren't a builder or a realtor or even a business owner this book is still fantastic. I also highly recommend listening to the book because it's narrated by Chip!

Still in process of reading this, but I am already moving toward some scary dreams that I now feel inspired to chase.Chip’s style and enthusiasm are contagious.. and I highly recommend (the first half.. anyway) this book for anyone and everyone, but especially people struggling with lack of motivation or fear.

I read this book with Chip's voice in my head the whole time. I usually don't read biographies (because yyyaawwwnnn), but I was interested to see a little deeper into Chip Gaines' train of thought on life. So, be prepared for a major pep talk. I feel like we all could use one every so often in our lives to keep our dreams fresh and inspired. If you are feeling a little doubtful about the course of your life, this is a great book for you!

I like Fixer Upper and the Gaines Family. However, this book was really boring. He jokes multiple times that it's not a juicy tell all book. I hoped he would talk about more about the work they do and most importantly how to be successful financially as an entrepreneur. I hoped for more behind the scenes and how they got their tv show. However, he skips over what I think would have been a pivotal and possibly exciting story of how Fixer Upper came about. He almost seems bitter towards the show.I appreciated his God thoughts. They seem like good people. Bur there were way too many mediocre chapters on insignificant memories. A lot of gloating on his wife. Which is sweet, until it becomes a bit redundant. I skipped several paragraphs (sometimes whole pages at a time). Unfortunately, the book consisted of really boring thoughts and basic observations about treating people right. I wouldn't recommend paying $16 for this book. Unless you know of someone that likes sports reference and needs a pep talk on how to be a better person.Pro: It's a really quick, easy read.

Chip is as candid and down to earth as he is on Fixer Upper. I am in the midst of listening to the audio version for the second time. A lot of great stories that have given me some insights into my own life as a risk taker and entrepreneur.
