Review
"One-Pot Pasta is just the cookbook I was looking for. My family eats pasta every single week, and these meals are always the same two recipes. Sarah's formula for making pasta on the fly opened my eyes to all the choices we truly could make. Her recipes are easy to follow, and the kids have empty plates at the end of dinner. I especially love that she included an entire section on sides. My entire family looks to this cookbook for our next meal now!"―Jenny Melrose, lifestyle blogger at The Melrose Family (thenymelrosefamily.com) "Pasta is a lifesaver on busy nights, and this book manages to make this easy meal even easier―while breathing new life into a familiar favorite. Sarah’s creative, well-balanced recipes offer something for everyone, no matter your dietary preference so that you’ll never tire of these one-and-done meals. I love that she includes plenty of vegetables, too!"―Stepfanie Romine, theflexiblekitchen.com, and author of Cooking with Healing Mushrooms "As a busy working mom who loves to cook, I am always on the lookout for flavorful easy recipes. One-Pot Pasta is chock-full of fresh, new ideas to make crunch time meals a breeze with the bonus of having only one pot to clean up after!"―Jenny Hartin, Eat Your Books (www.eatyourbooks.com) "Easy recipes, delicious results. The problem is that you have to try and find a place to return the book one place dose not have the the stuff to get a return scan or what ever that thing was that you e-mailed me they told me I had to go across town were they have the technolegy I think that's how you spell it but I will just keep the book It will make a quick gift someday
I believe a one-pot goes beyond the recipes in this book; but this cookbook seems to be a great start!
Easy to use. I’ll be trying many of these recipes. I like convenience with taste!
I’m always looking to simplify my dinner routine without sacrificing taste and quality . This cookbook has it all , I’m even buying extra copies to give out as gifts !
She had me at PASTA!It says it right there in the book blurb here at Amazon that what is unique about this Pasta Cookbook is that you really can make these 65 yummy recipes each in just one pot, but I didn’t even see that when I got the opportunity to read and review this delicious new cookbook by award-winning food columnist Sarah Walker Caron. All I saw was PASTA, and they had me.Yes, yes, yes, please! The beauty part of Sarah’s delicious recipes from Cheese and Meat to Vegetarian and Vegan to Fish and Poultry options is her One Pot Principle. At the back cover leads, One Pot. Less Mess. No Stress. What a great option for busy families, couples cooking for two, and urban singles with super small kitchens, stoves and sinks.I’m just SO used to reading the directions on the boxes of Pasta and watching the fun indoctrination from America’s Test Kitchen that I endeavor ALWAYS to use a ton of water for the pasta to cook in.Not so per Sarah!I had to really read the recipes to get the idea into my thick skull about this. We are using less water (it’s measured for a reason in her recipes) or broths for flavor boosts.Part of why I was interested in picking up a copy of her cookbook was to get more ideas about ways and means to prepare pasta. New yummy sauces. Ideas for using different ingredients. No disappointment here! Sarah really delivered! She also makes it easy to play with different options to please yourself and your family. She introduces and simplifies The Formula all on one page that you’ll want to stick on the inside of a kitchen cupboard while you indoctrinate your brain to think like this and customize it to your family’s needs. In addition to yummy recipes, Sarah emphasizes building up FLAVOR, so it’s not just open a jar of store bought sauce, pour it over your cooked pasta, heat in the microwave and serve. Oh wait, that’s how I do Alfredo sauced dishes! lol. She provides us some great herb mix recipes we can mix ourselves and store to have them at the ready when we want to cook dinner quickly. She encourages us to mix up the pasta with a full 2 column listing of them all on one page, thank you to those who designed the layout of the book so it’s all in one place. Once you own your own copy, you could take a quick snapshot of it on your phone and reference it at the store when shopping to prompt you to experiment and play with different pastas. That said, because of that, you can change out the pasta in any of the recipes, you can substitute a gluten-free pasta if you need to. Which also means you could use a whole wheat pasta or veggie-enriched pasta (Barilla makes some) instead of a traditional wheat durum pasta. Additionally, because I need to reduce my carb intake, not that I’m diabetic, but diabetics need to as well as anyone following Atkins Diet, South Beach Diet or the Mediterranean Diet, theoretically with some reduction in the liquid (water or broth) used, you could Spiralize a veggie like zucchini like my family does and have similar results. I don’t think I would try a Spiralized Mac and Cheese, but many of the meat (Beef, Chicken and Seafood) based and some of the vegetable dishes, you could easily substitute Zoodles.Secondarily, even though Sarah doesn’t put it in her recipes (she might have cited it somewhere in the book that I didn’t notice not yet chewing on the morsel of every single word, yet), you can increase your Veg to Protein ratio. If you’re a fan of Food Over 50 as my partner and I are, or the FMD Fast Metabolism Diet, then you know it’s advantageous for our health at any age to increase the Veg to Protein ratio. You could easily fine or course chop up zucchini or summer squash and add that to many, although not all of the 65 terrific recipes in her One-and-Done meals. There is a section after all the pasta recipes for side dishes including some delicious looking veggie dishes including some cauliflower (also a low carb person’s friend) options we’re looking forward to trying. I just personally won’t be doing the brussel sprouts dish. No way no how are you getting me to eat those. That’s why God gave us a whole plethora of veggies to choose from. There are so many. Her recipes are both wonderfully flavorful in her emphasis and marvelously adaptable to meet many dietary needs.I highly recommend! This cookbook of Sarah’s belongs in many kitchens. Its inclusive of many great quality photographs and the appealing and helpful layout make it a great gift for any special occasion: Holidays, Anniversary, Birthday, Heading Off to College, Graduation, House Warming, First Apartment (pasta is a cheap food!), Engagement Present, you name it. It’s a very attractive book, thus making it such a great gift which is also practical and would be used, not just so pretty you never touch it and it sits on a shelf unused. Priced at US$12.99 / CAN $16.99, you can’t go wrong or break the bank!
I've been very, VERY skeptical of the one pot trend. I'm always scared food is going to turn out runny or undercooked. I hadn't tried out any recipes until I got this book and I was very impressed. I made the French Onion Linguine and Beer Cheese Penne with Tomatoes and both turned out freaking amazing. I couldn't believe it. There are six sections (meat, veggie, cheese, seafood, etc.) and even though I won't use the meat ones I thought this book was super worth getting. I can't wait to try out more. My only "beef" with this book (see what I did there) was that there were hardly any pictures. I LOVE pictures and always have to compare my attempts with the books. The recipes are great, there's lots of variety, and they are easy to follow. This is perfect for lazy cooks or those with small kitchens.
I love pasta as does hubby, well he loves anything I make. One Pot Pasta is perfect, I love doing anything in the one pot as it is super easy, just throw everything in one pot. There is some prep work to the recipes but it is nice to not have to cook the pasta separately and then add to whatever you are cooking. This cookbook has 65 recipes, that are easy to follow. I made the Rotini with Leeks, Tomatoes, and Peas. It was delicious. I will definitely be making it again. What I also like about the cookbook is the Introduction, which has one pot cooking methods, step by step best practices, a list of ingredients to have in your pantry, what liquids and spice blends to have on hand. It also has what tools and equipment that you need to have. In the back of the book, there is a conversion chart. So if you are strapped for time and lead a busy life, this is the cookbook for you, especially if you love pasta!I received a copy of this book for review purposes.
